COVID-19 has caused stress in a lot of peoples lives. Many have been laid off and many are discouraged from job seeking. I am however, more motivated than ever. I just finished Lambda School and I’m ready to start coding for companies.
My goal is to work in the health care part of tech since that is a growing field right now. Plus, I have always been interested in health care. The only reason I am not a nurse is because Chemistry scares me. However, I can create algorithms to do complex tasks but fundamental building blocks of nature just aren’t compatible with my brain.
Speaking of Algorithms! I am doing a ton of Hacker Rank, Leet Code and Code Signal challenges to keep myself ready for those “whiteboard” interviews. Will I still be terrified going into those interviews? Of course, but at least I will be prepared AND terrified.
One challenge I face during my job searching is the fact that I want to get out of the city I live in. It is a poor city with break-ins and robberies every night. I recently had my car windows smashed, TWICE! So yeah, I’m looking to relocate to pretty much anywhere on the west coast. There are some companies in their job description that will say “MUST LIVE IN XYZ WILL NOT PAY FOR RELOCATION COSTS”. Seems kinda foolish on their part because they are only going to get a handful of applicants. Where as, if they opened it up to everywhere and offered relocation costs or at least was willing to negotiate something, they would get tons of applicants and probably have better luck finding the developer of their dreams (ahem ahem, me!).
So while I am on the hunt for the perfect job for me and my family I will be posting code challenges and how I solved them. I might go in depth into their Big O notation. We’ll see though.
